A man shot Martin Luther King in Atlanta on 4th April 1968. He drove a white Ford car. Who was he ? The police found "Harvey Lowmeyer's "gun and "John Willard's "shirt, and then the white car. It was "Eric Starvo Galt's" car. So what was this man's real name? The marks on the shirt and the car sent the F. B. I. to Los Angeles. 300 detectives questioned people. At last one found a photograph of "Galt". Then detectives in Atlanta found a fingerprint. It was on a map in "Galt's"room in a small hotel. One fingerprint was enough.
James Earl Ray's fingerprint was already on the F. B. I. cards. The police watched railway stations, hotels and airports. 3000 detectives were trying to find Ray---without success.
The Canadian police were helping, too. They looked at 240,000 photographs in their Passport Office. Then they found one of "Ramon George Sneyd". "We gave this man a passport last month," they said. "He went to London on 2nd May. "The man was wearing thick glasses, but he looked like Ray. Then on 8th June, a detective at London Airport saw Sneyd's name on a passenger list.
It was the end of the biggest manhunt in history. The F. B. I. spent 1.4 million dollars, but they got their man.

How can we get rid of garbage() ? Do we have enough energy sources to meet our future energy needs?
These are two important questions that many people are asking today. Some people think that men might be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest using garbage as an energy source.
For a long time people buried garbage or dumped it on empty land. Now empty land is scarce. However, more and more garbage is produced each year, but garbage can be a good fuel to use. The things in garbage do not look like coal, petroleum, or natural gas: but they are chemically similar to these fossil fuels(). As we use up our fossil-fuel supplies, we might be able to use garbage as an energy source.
Burning garbage is not a new idea. Some cities in Europe and the United States have been burning garbage for years. The heat that is produced by burning garbage is used to boil water. The steam that is produced is used to make electricity or to heat nearby buildings. In Paris, France, some power plants burn almost 2 million metric tons of the city's garbage each year. The amount of energy produced is about the same as would be produced by burning almost a half million barrels of oil.
But there are problems in using garbage as a fuel. Garbage that burns easily, such as food scraps and paper, must be separated from metals, glass, and other materials that do not burn easily. This separation process is normally costly. Another problem is that burning garbage can pollute the air.
Our fossil fuel supplies are limited. Burning garbage might be one kind of energy source that we can use to help meet our energy needs. This method could also reduce the amount of garbage piling up on the earth.
82. Which of the following is NOT fossil fuel?
(A) Natural gas (B) Petroleum (C) Coal (D) Tide
83. People used to depose garbage by ______.
(A) turning garbage into useful fossil fuel
(B) burning garbage or dumping it on empty land
(C) separating garbage into three types
(D) shipping garbage into sea or ocean
84. Why should we use garbage as an energy source?
(A) Because our fossil fuel supplies are limited
(B) Because garbage is more useful than fossil fuels
(C) Because burning garbage can save a lot of money for us
(D) Because empty land is getting more and more scarce.
85. What do you think the next paragraph will talk about?
(A) Some other methods of turning garbage into treasure
(B) Some other benefits we can get from burning garbage
(C) How much garbage we can make use of in the world
(D) How to separate food scraps and paper from garbage that do not burn easily.

On the fourth Thursday of November every year, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The day is a national holiday which is set aside each year as a time to give thanks to God for our Blessings.
Legend has it that the first English settlers in Massachusetts started the custom. According to the story, the Pilgrims---as they are called ---gave thanks for having survived the terrible winter of 1621 and for having harvested their first summer crop. They invited their Indian friends to join them in a large feast to share in the bounties of the land.
The traditional foods of the big Thanksgiving Day meal include roast turkey, cranberries, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and Indian bread pudding.
Since the day is set aside for giving thanks, it has also become a traditional family day. Large dinners with many relatives are common throughout America on this special day.
15. When was the Thanksgiving Day tradition begun?
16. Who first started the custom according to legend?
17 What is not included in the traditional Thanksgiving Day foods?
How did the first people on earth communicate with each other? They didn't talk to each other. They didn't use words at all. They probably used signs or pointed to things they wanted. For example, perhaps they rebbed their stomachs to show that they were hungry. These early people had thoughts and ideas, but they didn't communicate them in words.
Nobody knows for certain when people first began to use words, but according to some scientists language may be about one million years old. What were the first words in the human vocabulary? They probably named things that were common and important. Perhaps the first words were short, simple sounds for things that humans saw or touched such as the sun, the moon, a tree, a stone, rain, water, and so on. Words for basic human emotion such as love, dislike, fear, and pain were probably part of the earliest vocabulary.
18. How did the first people communicate with each other?
19. When, according to some scientists, did people first begin to use words?
20. What words were probably the first words in the human vocabulary?

Today is my 18th birthday. As Father and Mother thought it was a big occasion for me, they suggested I hold a birthday party at home to celebrate it. For several days they had been busy preparing for this. By 4 o'clock I was pleased to see all my friends had come. Mother cooked us a big meal. We ate and talked happily. The most exciting moment was when Mother put the big birthday cake on the table and all my friends began to sing Happy Birthday. Seeing the 18 candles burning, I couldn't keep back my tears. Mother asked me to make a wish before I blew out all the candles. After that, everyone enjoyed the sweet birthday cake and shared my happiness.
I am eighteen years old now, which means I've become an adult and have more responsibilities to bear. I'll do my best in every way to return my parents' love and live up to their expectations.
